On Remembrance

Every face carries a quiet story, waiting to be remembered. To me, a portrait is not merely a reflection; it is a living thread woven through time, connecting past and present with gentle reverence. When voices soften into memory and photographs lose their clarity, a painted portrait continues to breathe, holding within it the warmth of a life once lived. It whispers of where we began, of the hands that shaped us, and of the love that still lingers, unseen but deeply felt. My hope is that each piece becomes a cherished heirloom, a tender vessel for memory that endures across generations.

I paint with the belief that those who came before us should never fade into unfamiliarity. Their presence, their quiet strength, and the poetry of their everyday lives deserve to be held close. In each portrait, I seek not only to capture a likeness, but to preserve a soul's gentle imprint, the essence that continues to echo within us. Through timeless, heartfelt work, I strive to honor the beauty of remembrance and the enduring bond between who we are and those who came before.

About the Artist

Jeanna Zitting

Jeanna Zitting is a fine-art portrait painter working in oil. Based in the American West, she has spent years studying the quiet language of the human face, the way light gathers in a familiar wrinkle, the way a knowing eye holds a whole lifetime.

She paints slowly and with reverence, treating each commission as a keeping place for memory. Her portraits live in family homes and private collections, where painted faces keep watch over the generations who follow, and where the people we love are never quite allowed to fade.

Every likeness begins the same way: with listening. Who was this person. What did their hands do. What do you never want to forget. From there, the painting becomes a shared act of remembrance.
