The Heart of the Work

A Living Thread Through Time

Every face carries a quiet story, waiting to be remembered. To me, a portrait is not merely a reflection; it is a living thread woven through time, connecting past and present with gentle reverence. When voices soften into memory and photographs lose their clarity, a painted portrait continues to breathe, holding within it the warmth of a life once lived. It whispers of where we began, of the hands that shaped us, and of the love that still lingers, unseen but deeply felt. My hope is that each piece becomes a cherished heirloom, a tender vessel for memory that endures across generations.

I paint with the belief that those who came before us should never fade into unfamiliarity. Their presence, their quiet strength, and the poetry of their everyday lives deserve to be held close. In each portrait, I seek not only to capture a likeness, but to preserve a soul's gentle imprint, the essence that continues to echo within us. Through timeless, heartfelt work, I strive to honor the beauty of remembrance and the enduring bond between who we are and those who came before.

About the Artist

About Jeanna

Jeanna Zitting is a portrait painter devoted to the tender work of remembrance. Working in oil on linen, she paints the people we most wish to keep close: parents and grandparents, the quiet elders of a family, the faces whose stories deserve to endure long after the photographs have faded.

Her portraits begin in listening. Before a brush ever touches the canvas, she gathers the small details that make a person themselves, the way the light fell, the softness of a familiar expression, the poetry of an ordinary day. Each painting is built slowly and with reverence, so that what remains is not only a likeness but a living presence.

She believes a painted portrait is one of the truest heirlooms a family can hold, a way of honoring those who came before and passing their memory gently into the hands of the generations still to come.
